New iPhone speaker a tall order
Uplifting news for iPod addicts
And award for the most improbable piece of iPhone kit goes to this free-standing speaker from Cygnett that’s nearly a full metre tall.
The Unison Tower Speaker for iPhone and iPod is ready to go shoulder to shoulder with any hi-fi speaker, with Cygnett calling it “a statement of powerful and precise performance”. Given that it plays and charges your favourite Apple device, we’d be more inclined to simply call it an iPod dock, albeit an unusually shaped one.
And granted, it has a decent-sounding spec, which includes 2.1 stereo output at a respectable total of 48W. Among its more prosaic features are an LED-backlit display, AM and FM radio tuner and an alarm clock, and it comes complete with a remote control.
And it should, for at £199 the Unison Tower Speaker is not cheap. It works with all generations of iPod and iPhone, while users of lesser MP3 players have to resort to the usual auxiliary input option.
