New Dyson air multipliers blast off
Unlike conventional fans, the Dyson air multipliers don't use blades
Dyson may be best known for its vacuum cleaners, but the innovative UK firm is increasingly cleaning up in other areas too, as witnessed by its new Air Multiplier AM02 and AM03.
The new air multipliers – or fans, to you and me – are twice the height of the original AM01 and equally as eye-catching.
Unlike most conventional fans, the air multipliers have no visible blade, and instead rely on a system called inducement to create a low-pressure area in the middle of the iconic ring shape that dominates the unit, which helps multiply the wind speed (hence the name) by as much as 15 times by the time it reaches your perspiring face.
The AM02 marks something of a design departure for the range, with the circular loop having been stretched to form a running track shape a metre tall but just 19cm wide. The AM03, meanwhile, is a height-adjustable pedestal stand model designed to be stood on the floor, and can be adjusted between 1.2m and 1.4m in height.
Aside from the design variations, both new models continue the AM01’s good work in delivering whisper-quiet, consistently cool air, and both are on sale now for £299.
