New Call of Duty to bring “meaningful innovations” and raise the bar, says Activision

New Call of Duty games have become a bit of an annual gaming pastime. The past two Call of Duty games in particular broke all kinds of sales records last year. Looking ahead to this year’s shooter, Activision says that it’s looking “fantastic”, and will being new “innovations” to the series.

If previous releases are anything to go by, we won’t see the next Call of Duty game arrive in stores till around the first week of November. The moneymaker that the phenomenally successful Call of Duty series is, publisher Activision is already looking ahead to that day.

Previous Call of Duty entry Modern Warfare 3 became the biggest entertainment launch ever – selling over 6.5 million copies in the US and UK within 24 hours. Activision believes the next game will raise the bar.

Modern Warfare 3 launch the biggest ever in UK

“This year we expect to further expand our presence with the launch of an all-new epic first-person shooter title under the Call of Duty brand. From what we’ve seen to date, the game already looks fantastic and will bring meaningful innovations to the franchise,” the publisher said.

Despite refining its own first-person shooter formula with each new title, the series has often been accused of not not bringing anything new to the table, so come November, we can’t wait to see what developer Treyarch has in store.

Meanwhile Activision also confirmed that its Call of Duty: Elite subscription service is the “third largest interactive subscription service behind World of Warcraft and Xbox Live.” the service delivers a thorough database of player stats, tips, tutorials and the promise of access to the latest content before non-subscribers.

Work has already commenced on Call of Duty Elite 2.0. “We’re already hard at work on Elite 2.0, with several innovative features being developed to work hand-in-hand with our new Call of Duty release.”

As the series goes from strength to strength, what new innovations, could the next Call of Duty game possibly bring? Battlefield-style multiplayer maps populated by more players, the ability to ride in vehicles? Got any ideas?

Cod

How about 3 team 18 player deathmatch? Or a mode for multiple teams of two, with one player being a sniper?
