Mythical Apple Tablet delayed again
Apple iTablet – still a figment of our imagination
Anyone holding their breath in anticipation of Apple’s Tablet popping onto their Christmas shopping list at the last minute is likely to do themselves an injury.
Turns out that the OLED screen on the half-Mac, half-eReader has been causing issues, and while a pre-Christmas launch was always unlikely, it’s now only expected to hit the shelves in mid-2010.
Persistent rumours of the Apple Tablet (pictured here in one of many mock-ups) have been circulating for over a year now, despite each Apple announcement coming and then going without a single word of confirmation.
But the chatter has picked up in recent weeks with first the New York Times, then magazine publisher Condé Nast, talking about reworking their publications for an all-new format.
The Tablet is said to be in essence a web-enabled eBook reader, with access to online apps just like the iPhone. Two versions are said to be planned: a 10.6in TFT model and a higher-spec 9.7in OLED version, with the latter supposedly responsible for the latest setback.
Best to breathe normally in the meantime then…
