MySpace Music lands in the UK
MySpace pumps up the volume
The competition for online music streaming just got a whole lot tougher for the likes of Spotify and Last.fm with the launch of MySpace Music in the UK.
Like its rivals, MySpace Music lets you stream ad-supported music and video to your PC free of charge, with MySpace claiming it has the most comprehensive catalogue on the internet.
The service has proven hugely popular since its launch a year ago in the US, where Spotify currently has no presence. You can create playlists based around artists you like, or listen to the artists’ own playlists through their MySpace page.
DRM-fee MP3 downloads will be available directly through Apple iTunes, with the library of available content including current releases and back catalogues from both major and independent labels.
Being free means having to put up with ad content, but unlike Spotify it doesn’t interrupt music playback. MySpace has an estimated 13 million members in the UK.
