Mio calls on TomTom for latest sat nav
Mio's sat navs get an IQ boost
Mio’s latest sat nav – the Navman Spirit V575 TV – certainly looks a decent prospect, what with its built-in Freeview TV tuner, but there’s a catch.
Because it’s not entirely Mio’s own technology doing the business at all on its latest navigation device, it’s TomTom’s too. The V575 makes use of TomTom’s IQ Routes real-time update system, which soaks up feedback from other users to give you live info on congestion and helps you pick out the best route accordingly.
It’s a controversial move considering the two companies are direct rivals in the sat nav game, but the accuracy of systems like IQ Routes improves with the number of people that use it, so we can’t complain too loudly.
That aside, the V575 has a lot going for it. Both directions and Freeview TV are set to look superb on the 4.7in screen, and you get autotune and a built-in EPG to help you along.
The Mio Navman Spirit V575 TV is out now, and will set you back £150.

have The Gadget show lost the plot here? So Mio sat navs are quite a bit cheaper than Tom Tom, but as far as i can tell, the maps and instruction are pretty much on a par. if you buy a Mio you get the IQ route (which is cool) in a sat nav that is more keenly priced. I'm no rocket scientist but that sounds like a great deal to me... and not something to even consider complaining loudly about. What are you thoughts Gadget Show?
