Microsoft planning Apple style app store for Windows Mobile
An Apple-style app store for Windows Mobile could be in the pipeline
Since Microsoft’s plans for an Apple style application store for Windows Mobile was leaked in September things have been a little quiet. Until now. Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer has further hinted of plans for its own mobile software store.
A few months ago Microsoft posted a job ad for a Senior Product Manager on it’s website to “drive the launch of a v1 marketplace service for Windows Mobile” dubbed Skymarket.
Asked about it recently, Ballmer said “I actually will agree that there’s some good work, particularly at Facebook and also with the iPhone, where both of those companies have made it easier for developers to distribute their applications.”
So, anything else to tell us? “We decided the answer was ‘Not ready to talk about those yet’, but fear not, we’re hard at work, and you’ll see some of the benefits with some of the concepts, particularly Facebook’s.”
Sounds like Microsoft could be working on a store with social network features, or even integrating Facebook into Windows Mobile devices. 3’s already done it after all.
We’ll bring you more when we hear it.
