Logitech outs top-end Z906 surround speakers
The successors to the popular Z-5500 surround speakers
Logitech’s trusty Z-5500 surround sound speakers have been around for quite a while now, and built a fairly loyal following, so we’ve got high hopes for their replacements – the just announced Z906 setup.
It’s certainly a step forward in the looks department, with a sleeker, more subtle design topped off by a new stackable control console. And rest assured, with a 500W RMS amplifier and a beefy 165W of bass, they’re not short on power either.
It’s not fussy about what it plays, either. With both digital and analogue inputs, you’re covered for just about any type of audio you can think of, be it movies, games or music. Logitech promises the on-board 5.1 digital decoding will deliver well separated and delicately balanced sound across the board.
Being the new top-of-the-range speaker system, you can’t expect too much of a bargain, but £329 still isn’t bad value for money if the Z906s are as capable as their predecessors. You’ll be able to find out for yourself when they go on sale later this month.

The Z-5500 is a fantastic budget surround sound system that has so many different input options. I think Logitech will be hard pressed to better their older system personally. However as I understand it this new unit is no more than a slight up grade which begs the question, is it worth it? No HDMI 1.4 input. What? Where’s the HD Audio?? Guess we will just have to use the "pass through" option again. How many people have blu-ray/3D capability in their PC's? These are supposed to be desk top systems so why miss out on HDMI? In the future most PC motherboards will have HDMI built in, without needing an add on Graphics Card. Also 5.1 speakers only. Why not 7.1? And the control pod? Have they done away with the LCD screen? Is that fancy LEDS instead? It would be great if you could review this product, just to see if this is really a worthy successor, or just a cosmetic tweak? Thanks....

500watts rms ..yeh right! maybe 500 watts peak!! , the size of the unit is too small to house a power supply for real 500 wrms.. i dont see the big deal with these Logitech’s speaker system they sound pants! i tested there system in pc world and it was far from music more like noise! how can you cope with so much port noise from the sub... the speakers have no mid bass at all.. waste of money £329 i rather build my own system.. cant beat the sound of a real Class A amp for real warth sound.
