Last-minute Christmas gadget gifts

The Gadget Show  Monday 22 December 2008

Last-minute Christmas gadget gifts Left the shopping to the last minute? Don’t fret. Here are ten last-minute suggestions…

1 For the camera-enthusiast The Canon EOS 450D is quite simply our favourite camera, and if you get this for your chum, it’ll be their favourite camera as well. With a 12.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, three-inch LCD and a user-friendliness that’s beyond even a Blue Peter presenter’s enthusiasm, it’s the perfect DSLR.

2 For TV lovers Sky+ HD is the ultimate PVR. Not only has it got a 320GB hard drive and two tuners so you can record one channel whilst watching another, but you can also pause and rewind live TV functions, and catch all your favourite channels in glorious High Definition. Easy.

3 For boy (and girl) racers Get the TomTom Go 930T for your auto-conscious amigos. They’ll never get lost again with all its POIs, clear voice directions and TomTom’s new Map Share system. It’s even got a built-in FM transmitter to beam digital tunes to your radio. Road To Hell anyone?

4 For the Clumsy For the accident-prone, check out the JCB Toughphone. It’s more solid than Chuck Norris on steroids. Tougher than Mike Tyson when he was tough. And more yellow and black than a bumble bee. It’s a pretty good phone as well.

5 For Robot Enthusiasts It can only be Wrex the Dawg. This mechanical pup has been crafted by the finest junkyard rubbish – check out the rubber tail. But that doesn’t make him any less endearing. Can’t even spell ‘dawg’ right. How cute.

6 For the man with everything He’s got everything has he? Well, he can put it in this – Live Luggage. These are some seriously sturdy suitcases that are fitted with some anti-gravity handles that transmit 85 per cent of the weigh to the wheels. There are also force sensors, tilt switches and even a built-in umbrella, because you’re not waterproof, even if it is.

7 For the music lover We love the Touch, but for pure portability you can’t beat the iPod Nano. The 8GB version will hold up to 2,000 songs, which is more than enough for the average person. It’s light, but not light on features – it’s got Apple’s new Genius feature and an accelerometer – so all in all it’s the perfect porto-player .Pip pip!

8 For the action man The Storck Fascenario, aside from sporting a ridiculous name, is actually a stunning road bike. With a replaceable hanger and supersized Chainstays, this racer weighs just 6.5kg, which means you’ll be developing thighs the size small men in no time.

9 For the coffee lover If your friend works late, likes hot drinks or is Italian, chances are they like coffee. So what better gift for budding baristas than the Handpresso Wild? This portable espresso maker is highly portable, has a little pump to build the pressure and makes delicious coffee. Now, single or double espresso?

10 The X-Factor wannabe If your friend wants to sing but has the voice of David Beckham and refuses to act as Sweep’s understudy on Sooty, then you could try and be supportive and get them Lips on the Xbox 360. The practice will do them good for when they try out on X-Factor. Just be sure to get yourself some noise-cancelling in-ear headphones while you’re at it.
