Land Rover S1 rolls out
The Land Rover S1: so tough it makes Chuck Norris seem like Brian Dowling
Those of you with memories marginally better than a goldfish will remember the super-tough Land Rover S1 mobile (created by Sonim) we showed you back in December. Well, six months on, and it’s finally getting a UK launch!
A quick reminder then of the Land Rover S1’s strengths: it’s actually the world’s first IP-67 rated GSM mobile phone – a standard which indicates it has been tested and found to be totally impervious to dust, as well as dirt, shocks and drops. Well, we’re impervious to dust and dirt, so nothing too special there. But the S1 is also waterproof to a depth of one metre for up to 30 minutes and is resistant to extreme pressure of up to 400kg! Okay, we admit, that’s better than we can do.
Other extras on the Land Rover S1 include a two-megapixel waterproof camera with built-in flash, built-in GPS, torch light, FM radio, 2GB memory slot, J2ME Java for mobile, WAP browsing through its in-built Opera Mini WAP browser and Bluetooth. But what makes this so tough it deserves the Land Rover name? Well, the body’s made from a long-lasting, re-useable material – XENOY – a revolutionary plastic made from used plastic bottles and film. And that makes it tougher than your average tough phone!
And how much for the privilege of owning one of the toughest handsets around? A cool £299.99. And if for some reason you do manage to break the practically unbreakable Land Rover S1, well it’s got a three year unconditional guarantee. Awesome.

phone looks cool although i watched a programme called click and saw a guy break the phone although he kind of hit it with a hammer and thats pretty much it i'm hoping that they will make an unbreakable cheap touch phone like the iphone but with a solid screen aswell.
