It's official: iPad 2 launching on March 2
That's six days from today
We were speculating as much just yesterday, and now Apple has come out and made it so: the iPad 2 will officially launch next Wednesday, March 2.
The company has sent out invites in the shape of an iOS calendar icon peeling away to clearly show the top right hand corner of an iPad lurking underneath. As expected, the main event will take place in San Francisco, while a mirror event will go down at the BBC Television Centre in London.
The news finally puts paid to persistent rumours that the Apple tablet is facing serious delays because of production issues – particularly with the touchscreen. Of course, a launch event next week doesn’t mean it might not still be a month or two before the iPad 2 goes on sale – in fact, we’re expecting as much, but that should give time for any lingering issues to be resolved.
As for what else we’re expecting from Apple’s second tablet, a lighter, thinner chassis looks like a given, as does the presence of both front and rear-facing cameras, allowing the tablet to join the FaceTime video-calling party. Internal hardware looks to have enjoyed a modest but unspectacular upgrade, likewise the display, with the remainder of the iPad 2’s new features likely to come via the iOS 4.3 operating system.
All will be revealed next week.

Looking forward to the tech details of this..... been itching to get an iPad for some time but holding off for the next model..... hopefully lots of extra stuff to make it worth it.... or it will at least drive down the v1 prices...

is it true that the new Ipad has a 1.5 megepixel camera both back and front? i have the first gen Ipad, and was holding off incase i could get the new one by trading in my current one, but if its not go ta good camera then sack it tbh.

TBH the iPad 2 will be out of date shortly after it goes on sale, there are major competitors due for release over the coming months with far more to offer and hopefully competitively prices!

Out of date shortly after it go's on sale! Ladys and gentleman I like to introduce the iPad killer. I'm sure we have heard that one a few time over the last year and guess what the iPad is stil going strong and so will the iPad 2

To be honest the only real competitor to the iPad is the iPad 2, the other tablets are yet to compare on price and value. My family currently owns one iPad and looks to purchase another.
