It's an Archos-palooza! Archos bring tablet PCs, laptops and PMPs to keep us happy

Wow, Archos has been busy while we were sleeping rolling out Archos 10s and 13 laptops, and the Archos 3 PMP and the Archos 9 Tablet PC.

First up then that Archos 9 Tablet PC, which was the company’s leading announcement at their event event in France last night. Basically a netbook in tablet form, the nine-inch Archos 9 has been given a Windows 7 update. Specs-wise, it’s got an adequate 1.2GHz processor, 80GB disk, Bluetooth and dual DVB-T antennae. Sounds nifty then, and all for €500 (£425), out in Autumn.

The Archos 10s Mini PC, meanwhile, is the company’s version of a netbook, measuring just 21mm thin for manbag portability. It boasts a 10.2-inch screen, an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and a 80GB hard disk. But if you want something a bit bigger, then the Archos 13 is your lappie

Finally, sating your PMP needs, Archos has unveiled the Archos 3. If you’ve been following Archos’ naming practices then you’ll know that already that this sports a three-inch touchscreen. It also has an 8GB Flash drive and will cost around £85. Nano? Pah!

I have owned an Archos 9 for about a year. It was brilliant at first but I now feel that the tablet PC form is a bit of a gimmick. The touch screen is very good if not quite as good as the Ipads but with the Archos 9 only having a touch screen keyboard, typing anything longer than a few sentences can become a little tedious. My other issue with my Archos 9 was that if lie me you can spend a long time surfing the internet, holding a tablet pc can give you arm ache and this ruins the whole experience. After nearlly a year I have now bought a little netbook (HP mini) and this is much better. It still has similar performance of the Archos but with a real keyboard and being able to have it sitting on me knee the whole experience is much better.
