iPod dock, DAB+ radio and CD player launched by Onkyo

Bridging the gap between high quality and affordability, audio specialist Onkyo have released a new mini system – the Onkyo Colibrino CS-245DAB – comprising speakers, DAB+ tuner and an integrated iPhone/iPod dock.

Home stereos have faced a pretty tough battle recently, with a raft of decent iPod docks available as alternatives. The Onkyo Colibrino CS-245DAB offers the best of both worlds, with an iPod dock, DAB+ radio, CD player and also the ability to play back songs from USB memory sticks.

The fact it includes a dock means you’ll be able to charge your iPod or iPhone, along with playing back all your tunes, with a remote control letting you flit through your collection without getting up.

All this is packed into one neat unit, available in a range of different colours – including a deep red, lime green, white and black – with two compact free-standing speakers. Quality is top-notch, as we’ve come to expect from Onkyo, with the main unit constructed from steel. The speakers themselves feature two-way bass-reflex units, with 10cm woofers. Fingers crossed they’ll sound as good as they look.

Costing £280, the Onkyo Colibrino CS-245DAB isn’t exactly cheap, but it is just about in range for lots of us, and does offer a lot. We’ve also been impressed with previous offerings from the company.

Would you still buy a proper stereo with separate speakers, or do you prefer one off the many all-in-one iPod docks that are now available? Leave a comment and let us know what you think.

If you are listening to mainly mp3 tracks on an ipod it doesnt need to be high quality equipment really as the quality isnt always that good anyway. For me if I am listening to cd's or vinyl I have a better seperates setup in the lounge which sounds superior to any mini hifi or ipod dock speaker system. This looks pretty good and would suit a smaller room or apartment but you cannot beat a dedicated seperates setup.
