iPlayer key to BBC's Olympics coverage plan
Your Olympics, your way
The BBC has revealed that much of the coverage from next year’s London Olympics will go straight to the iPlayer, giving you the chance to pick and choose what you want to watch, and when.
Speaking at a Samsung event in Budapest, the Beeb’s general manager of future media and tech, Daniel Danker, revealed that the iPlayer will broadcast the excess of content not able to be shown on the BBC’s ordinary channels.
“The 2012 Olympics will mean that we will have more content available than we can broadcast,” the BBC man said. “So, the combination of on demand and TV is the only way we will be able to get all the content to consumers.”
Danker said the advent of so-called smart TVs that combine traditional TV and web features on a single home cinema platform, such as offered by Samsung’s Smart Hub service, had ushered in an exciting time for the BBC. “This brings together iPlayer and TV which is liberating.”
