iPhone gets free 3G Skype-to-Skype
iPhone gets Skype 3G
The iPhone Skype app has just been updated to activate free Skype-to-Skype calls over its 3G network, and there’s even more great news – calls are free until 2011.
Skype confirmed that iPhone VoIP calls on 3G were on their way back in February and it’s now finally made good on its claim. The Skype 2.0 update adds 3G Skype-to-Skype calls to the already available Wi-Fi capability.
Besides data charges from your operator, the iPhone Skype 3G calls will be free – until the end of 2010 at least. After that, Skype plans to introduce a premium subscription service.
The updated iPhone Skype app also promises improved sound quality (Skype claims its “near CD-quality”) using the wide-band audio skills of the iPhone 3GS, iPad and second- and third-generation iPod Touches.
The updated Skype iPhone app is available now.
