iPhone 4: unlocked SIM-free versions on sale iPhone 4 - get it SIM-free now

Apple has started selling the iPhone 4 SIM-free here in the UK and you don’t need a pay-as-you-go deal for them to work. The 16GB model will cost you £499, with the 32GB model coming in at £599.

The unlocked iPhone 4 means you can use your own SIM with the device. However, there’s a snag. The iPhone 4 uses micro SIM cards, as found in the iPad 3G, which are not currently available on any SIM-only packages. It looks like you’ll need to wait a wee bit for that.

The networks are yet to announce tariff pricing and how much the iPhone 4 will set you back up front if you decide to go for a cheap package. Rest assured that it won’t be cheap. However, with a 5 megapixel camera, HD video, a stunning screen and slimline body, this looks like a gadget that’ll be very hard to resist.

£400? hard to resist? I think not. Yet another excuse for apple to con its loyal fans into buying a very expensive, polished turd and convincing them its better than anything else out there.

I'VE watched the presentation on my laptop 3 times and steve said that the iphone 4 will have the same prices as the iphone 3gs and that iphone 4 will have just replaced the prices for the iphone 3gs so how come the prices havent been anounced yet in the uk

The chip on the mini sim card is the same as on a regular sim card- just cut your sim down to size using one of the templates on the internet!

This might be the way to go if carriers have their way (and someone sells a micro sim!) O2s new data policy is to limit data with no lowering of tarrifs to compensate. Most people will save right? cause they don't user 500meg and can go on a lower tarrif? Wrong. The leaked price of the phone on a lower tarrif is £180+ (2x the 3Gs launch). EITHER WAY -YOU PAY.

I'm sorry but with the ever increasing phones and apps for android you would think that apple would be more competitive on price. Personally I would get the desire over the iphone 4 and there are other android based phones that are going to wipe the the floor in terms of price and content. I would have an iphone if it was realisticly priced for the spec, apple are greedy and that greed will be there downfall eventually, open source, unrestricted android is the future and a better future for all who want to be free without having to hack. Don't get me wrong apple make quality hardware but when I connect my ipod touch to my computer and download from itunes I get this horrible choking feeling around my neck.

Actually, those prices are pretty ball-park for a SIM free smartphone of this kind of spec. The Samsung Galaxy S Android phone will set you back £480 and the Sony Xperia X10 is around £450. The Google Nexus One with only 512MB of internal memory rolls in at a whopping £555 so while the iPhone 4 is no bargain it's certainly competitive at that end of the market.

Iphone 3Gs on 18 mth £30 contract + £189 for the hand set! And you only get 150 mins and 250 texts! Thats still pants for saying you can get a whole lot more mins and unlimited texts with a desire or other android based smart phone. Be interesting how much the 3Gs comes down by when the tariffs are released. I suspect not alot!
