iPhone 4 “antennagate” videos pulled
"Remember, just hold it right and it'll be ok"
Apple has pulled videos of rival phones suffering from signal problems from its official site. The clips, which caused everyone from BlackBerry to Nokia to get riled up by Cupertino, have been replaced by in-depth explanations of how Apple has tested the iPhone’s reception since the debacle began over a month ago.
The first line you see on the new site reads, “Every smartphone has a cellular antenna. And nearly every smartphone can lose signal strength if you hold it in a certain way.”
It then explains how Apple has spent a whacking $100 million on testing the iPhone 4. Shame all that testing didn’t prevent it from having to dole out free cases to fix the blower’s reception problem.
The new site also says, “Apple never release a product without testing it first.” This time round though, there’s no smackdown of smartphone rivals. However, although the videos may be gone, there’s still no love lost between Apple and other other mobile maker on the face of the planet.

Having had various iPhones 2G, 3G, and 3GS, despite the grumbles by some on the iPhone 4, I will still upgrade to the new iPhone 4, when my present contract on my 3GS comes to an end in December, as they are still streaks ahead in technology than any other manufacturer. Before the iPhones were launched I had many Nokia phones, but as I am a disabled person who is a great Mac fan, then the iPhone 4 has no competition with me. The iPhones should be regarded as disabled person friendly, as they clearly are !

I've been an Apple man "to the core" (if you'll pardon the pun) for almost twenty years, but there's no way I would pay the UK price for an iPhone or an iPAD (with or without an aerial). When the iPhone was launched last year, the cheapest in the US was $199 (subject to a contract with At & T). They came down from the mountains on their burros and cleared out the entire stock of one Californian Applestore in a single day. The price in the UK for the same 16g model was £499 (subject to a contract with O2). Compare the price of the various packages from these two providers. The Yanks pay in dollars what we pay in pounds sterling. And for as long as I can remember (I'm 79 years old) wages and salaries in the US have always been five times as much as here in the UK. But this is "rip-off" Britain, where you can buy a British made car on the continent for £2,000 less than in the UK. I'll wait until they put an iPhone 4 in every packet of Kelloggs Cornflakes ! One final word of caution ! Beware of Chinese manufactured look-alikes on e-Bay. I got caught out !

My last iPhone was the 3G. Lived it and always it would take some beating. The 3GS was much the same but faster. Now for the 4. Wow is about all I need to say. Faster sleeker and better looking. Heaps more twiddley bits and at last a great camera. I have had no signal issues and indeed I am unable to recreate the problem. I suspect all phones have problems of one sort or another and due to apples dominance and high profile this problem has been blown out of all proportion. The issue with dropped calls is nothing to do with signal. If you move the phone away from your ear mid call it can re activate the screen and then because it is so sensitive it is possible to hang up the call with your cheek. Simple solution is to keep phone on your ear when making a call much as apple said "don't hold it like that" seems to work for me. All in all ten out of ten all but the lack of adobe flash but that's another story..........

I love the iPhone 4. My friend got it the first day in the UK and I cannot fault it. And so far he has had no problems with the signal however he holds it

Mine will take 2 months to come, so I purchased one already. I probably therefore won't use the Apple issue, so a waste of time and money on Apple's part frankly - which is at odds with the Apple's strategy of squeezing as much money as possible out of their every move.

As a matter of fact, you can get the iPhone 4 for free from certain networks depending on which contract package you take out with them

This "phone" is clearly not fit for purpose and should be ranked alongside Microsoft Windows Vista amongst other abortions launched onto the paying public. It seems "beta testing" etc. is done by us nowadays and we have to pay the producer to do it for them. Disgraceful. Its time this was stopped, especially by the firms with such a dominant presence in the market. If this was done by a small firm, they would go bust!

I love my iPhone and I'll confirm what apple say, ALL smart phones cab drop out. All of them. All if them. The others just don't get the problem broadcast, cos we only want to blame one make on the media

I bought the iPhone 4 the day it came out but had to wait until the following Tuesday to receive it. In this time the internet was plagued with problems people had discovered with the phone and I wondered if I was going to regret my decision. Having received the iPhone and been using it for over a month I must say that I haven't found any of the so called major issues to be a problem. I like many others are actually unable to recreate the signal loss problems no matter how hard I try. My volume buttons were the correct way around, there was no yellow spots on the screen. So far all I have to say negatively about this phone is that in low light conditions I found that the flash created orangey-yellow photos. I resolved this problem by resetting the phone and now I get perfectly coloured photos even in low light, The screen will scratch relatively easy as I have noticed a few smal scratches just from everyday use but it was never advertised as scratch proof. Overall I've found the iPhone 4 a pleasure to use and the screen is unbelievabley sharp and colourful and the most responsive screen I've ever used. Overall 9/10.
