Ikea presents the kitchen of the future

Ikea presents the kitchen of the future Ikea's future kitchen – some home assembly required

Is this the kitchen of the future? Well, Ikea certainly seems to think so. The Swedish furniture fanatics have just released this vision of what they think our kitchens could look like in 30 years’ time.

Ikea’s 2040 mock-up kitchen features loads of new gadgets and gizmos to help us out in the domestic realm. It includes such futuristic treats as self-cleaning kitchen counters, a fridge and oven with 3D holographic displays and an ultra-sci-fi 3D food printer.

Ikea says that technology “like the sixth-generation iPad” will slot into appliance panels and cupboard doors, while there’s also less futuristic but equally handy cupboards on rails, energy monitors, remote-control ovens and multitouch control panels.

What do you think? What would be your ultimate kitchen gadget? Or do you think that the Ikea gizmos might arrive with one screw missing? Have your say below..

I'm sure the tech would be fantastic, but I can't help thinking it all looks a bit too clinical - a bit like a bio-research lab!

Ikea seem to have forgotten one important I.T. trend and that's the interconnectivity of appliances. All of the kitchen should be run from one central I.T. device, perhaps built into the wall or the fridge door, which can also be dialled up from your phone so that you can put the kettle on or start up the coffee machine when you get into your car to come home from a long days work.

how about a food replicator like the ones in the star trek films. what ever you want you just ask for it and it appears in front of you tasting as if it had just been cooked by a top chef

people in 30 years time will look upon cooking as an ancient art. Food will be limited to energy packs issued to weight size and expected calorie requirements, people will not be allowed to over eat,as there will be a food shortage.the fancy kitchen of the future will be a microwave type cooker a daily vitamin pill despencer, and a device for disposing of waste so it can be collected in neatly compressed packages for burning ect.

This looks great. Although with the way technology is advancing these days, we may have something similar to this alot sooner than 2040.
