HTC HD2 on sale now
HTC's new WinMo mobile is officially in shops now
HTC’s much-anticipated HD2 smartphone has been officially unleashed in Europe today.
The HD2 is the first Windows Mobile 6.5 handset to use a capacitive touch interface on its spacious 4.3in display. The impressive spec continues with a 5-megapixel camera, while the HD2 uses HTC’s Sense interface and comes packing a beefy 1GHz Snapdragon processor.
The news was delivered this morning by HTC bigwig Peter Chou and Microsoft chief exec Steve Ballmer at his side – illustrating just how important the software giant sees the HD2 to WinMo’s future.
At this stage it’s just gadget fans in Europe and Taiwan who’ll be able to get their hands on one, with a US launch only planned for 2010. At the time of writing, however, online retailers here in the UK were still seemingly in the dark. Amazon had the HD2 retailing at £549 from 20 November, Play.com had it £50 cheaper nine days earlier while T-Mobile said it would be available on contract on the 9 Nov.

Got this phone yesterday. It's so cool that I now have frostbite on my index finger. Would recommend it to anyone who wants a Windows phone.

Come on Gadget Show, when are you going to show this to the nation, Although to be honest I think you will still make the iPhone win like always. Your TV intro should say Sponsored by Apple not PC World. This phone is an iPhone killer but I do admit, its not an App Store killer.

The HD2 is amazing, looks fantastic and is great to use. As expected battery life isn't great but I can forgive a daily charging for having such a great piece of kit which does everything...

I was seriously considering the Iphone until I was offered the HTC HD2 on a great deal with T-Mobile. Initially I thought the Iphone was the dogs until I got this great piece of kit. It does everything the Iphone can do. Yes the App store might have thousands of Apps but who uses all these. The phone feels good to hold has a great GUI and the screen is as responsive as Apples. Battery life is great and Web access is really quick. This phone is also going to get the latest Windows 7 upgrade. Overall a fantastic phone and more. Before looking at the Iphone check this out. Superb...........!!!!!!

I've been looking at iphone replacements for a while and the HTC HD2 seems to be it. There are plenty of comparisons between the two on the internet, but please, make a gadget show comparison to help people like me who can't stand having the same phone as all the other people in the bus, in the street, in the country...

i second that, they should really make a gadget show comparison, allthough the feeling is they probably vote the 3gs iphone to Htc Hd2. The 3gs iphone are for babies while the htc Hd2 are for mature men who like to think outside the box......

I have just opted for the HTC HD2 as an upgrade from my G1. And I must say, I am hugely annoyed and dissapointed. Whilst the physical aspect of the phone is fantastic, camera, processor screen etc... the usability is, to say the least appaling. I got my G1, set it up with gmail, google calendars and synced it up within 20 minutes. This??? Well, what were microsoft thinking? I have had the phone for a whole day and I still haven't managed to sync with my lap top... apparently I have to buy outlook??? What!!!!! I now find out I cannot sync with google calendar... another huge shortfall. In all honesty what were HTC thinking putting such an appalling operating system on such a good phone. The success of the i-phone is simply down to it's ease of use and userfriendly interface. Windows mobile couldn't me more complicated or less useable than a box of sweedish flat pack! This would truly be an i-phone killer should HTC have used the android OS, instead I am left infuriated and frustrated by an incredible handset I cannot use. Suffice to say I am boxing up and sending back tomorrow and joining the rest of the nation with an i-phone. What a huge dissapointment, Windows Mobile your reputation will never change.

I have used the new hd2 for 3 days and i have to say its not very user freindly and some times can be anoyingly tricky to click on any internet links. The biggest thing is that i cant acces windows market place and T- Mobile told me to call up HTC direct to resolve this problem, The phone is good but made to complicated im thinking of returning in and getting another maybe i phone??? :)

Had my HTC HD2 for two months now. I find it amazing. Does everything it says on the packet! Will have another HTC again when contract runs out. Leaves the iPhone behind. Better speed than its' competitor, looks more expensive and robust design, better camera, Not disappointed at all. Where every you go, the weather goes with you!

had the hd2 for 2 months now, was seriously considering the iphone but was balking at the price on a monthly contract to get the unlimited text and internet i need, borrowed a friends g1 and loved it so had a play with the hd2 and from the moment i picked it up fell in love with it, pros - super fast at everything you can really see the difference compared to other phone, syncronisation with facebook, personalisation, ease of use. cons - low internal memory, no forward facing cam for video calls or messenger, market place just doesnt compete with app store. to clear up some complaints i have read on here firstly yes occasionally you do break through the sense ui and hit winmo but for me this isnt an issue its easy to use and understand and i personally dont see why people get all up in arms about it, the size and weight yes its a larger phone but its slim and not as heavy in your pocket as you would expect and i like to feel my phone in my pocket so for me this is perfection. so how does it stack up against the iphone? personally i think in every area but one it kills the iphone dead and burried, the only advantage i can find with the iphone is the app store has a lot more variety but as per other peoples comments 80% of those apps are useless so in simple terms GET THIS PHONE. :-)
