HD Slingbox gets UK launch
The £249 Slingbox PRO-HD - out now
Sling Media has finally brought the HD version of its popular Slingbox media streaming box to the UK.
The Slingbox PRO-HD comes with Freeview built in, and is capable of streaming DVB-T digital signals, HD TV received via cable or satellite, plus recorded high-def content around the home.
That means enjoying your favourite HD content on your PC or laptop, and Sling Media has also developed a SlingPlayer mobile app for iOS and Android, recognising the growing trend for watching video content on smartphones and tablet.
Connections include composite, component, S-Video and S/PDIF, but there’s no HDMI on board – a slight disappointment considering HD video streaming is the primary purpose of the PRO-HD.
Sling Media has also announced Slingbox.com, a fully web-based version of the Slingbox software that doesn’t require any software to be installed locally.
The Slingbox PRO-HD is on sale now from Amazon, John Lewis and Besr Buy, and carries a suggested price tag of £249.99.

Surely not having a HDMI connection defeats the point!!!

I waited a long time for this (the USA have had it for years) and now it comes out without a HDMI port. How completely stupid. The new Sky+HD boxes don't have a component out, making it completely impossible to connect the Slingbox HD to the mainstream/flagship platform for receiving HD in the UK. If you're lucky enough to have an old Thomson Sky HD box, you could connect it via component, but potentially be cut off later if Sky decide to switch off the output. Is anyone else sick and tired of being told what we're allowed to do with the equipment that we own and the TV that we pay for twice over in license + subscriptions?
