Google TV on the way
Google coming to your gogglebox
Not content with ruling the internet, it seems that Google has set its sights on our TV sets. Google TV is a venture with Google, Intel and Sony teaming up to create a new generation of internet-connected TVs and set-top boxes using Google’s Android OS and its Chrome browser.
The idea is that Google TV will create a system where you would be able to navigate to web apps like Twitter on your TVjust as easily as you can hop around channels now.
Google TV is set to be based on the Android OS and Google is likely to open up the system to developers in the same way it has for Android on smartphones.
Reports suggest that this will be made possible by special set-top boxes and TV sets using Intel Atom chips and Google’s search smarts.
Google is apparently set to deliver a software toolkit for Google TV to developers in the next few months and products using the software could arrive as soon as the summer.
Sony, Logitech, Intel and Google have all recently advertised for engineers to work on Android devices and TV-related projects.
