Google Earth coming to the Audi A8
Google Earth straight to your dashboard
In-car gadgetry is hardly a new concept, but Audi’s next A8 will take things to a new level by featuring a built-in sat nav system with integrated Google Earth as standard.
The next-generation luxury sedan from the German marque will have a GPRS/EDGE modem to keep on top of the latest traffic news at all times, and will also be able to access the full supporting case of Google Earth features, such as photos and points of interest.
It marks the first time that Google Earth will be built into a production vehicle as standard. But while that may be the big news regarding the next luxury Audi, it’s certainly not the only high-tech bauble the A8 will contain.
On top of its sat nav prowess, you’ll also get a 19-speaker sound system, an internet connection and an internal WiFi network so passengers can surf the web while you cruise effortlessly along the nearest motorway.
The next-gen A8 will go on sale mid-2010. We don’t expect it to be cheap, either.
