Going green? It's easy as A2B!
The Ultra Motor A2B bike: riding up the electric avenue
The ice sheets are melting and East Anglia may soon sink to the bottom of the North Sea. There is a downside, though – more Al Gore documentaries. To avoid this we’ve all got to go green – and the Ultra Motor A2B electric bike is a good start!
Developed by Ultra Motor, the A2B is an electric bike that gives off zero emissions courtesy of a 500 Watt electric motor. The beauty is, it has pedals too, so you can get your daily dose of fitness too. Alternatively, if the sight of a hill the size of Ben Nevis gets in your way. just kick back and enjoy the electric side of the bike.
The A2B has a range of 20 miles before you need to recharge the battery again, but a second cell can be added to double the range. Capable of hitting speeds up to 20mph, the A2B is not exactly going to break any land speed records, but it is the fastest electric bike around. But, as the name strongly suggests, it will get you from A to B without blackening the sky with smog.
It’s available in two models – the Metro and the Hybrid – and will set you back a cool £2,000. A pittance to help save the planet and keep Al Gore off our backs!

Wicked bike for sure, but.... 250w/15mph is the max for an electric bike surely? Which means at 300w/20mph that one needs registered and insured otherwise you risk losing your license and getting points a plenty!! :-o Worrying and I think it needs checking out :-/ (Otherwise fabulous and everyone should have one!!) :-)

Ive just purchased this bike I use it to travel to and from work (a 26 mile round trip) It acheives this on one charge and does one way in under 35 mins!, there's lots of hills enroute and it blasts up with little input from me, although i do use the bike to keep fit the joy is the ride can be as hard or as easy as you want. GET ONE!

I think unfortunately according to the Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle Regulations 1983 this bike would be illegal without MOT etc... unless your pal sits on the back and claims its a tandem? The 'onroad' switch only limits it to 250W according to the website, and there is general guidance that even having a switch means it needs registered. "The continuous rated output of the motor must not exceed 200 watts if fitted to a solo bicycle, or 250 watts in the case of a tandem or tricycle." Could you really even use without plates and without the risk of being busted?
