Get ready for 'The Daily' tablet-only paper Read all about it... only on your iPad

Apple and Robert Murdoch’s News Corp are to launch a tablet-only newspaper called ‘The Daily’ before the end of the year.

The project, which has reportedly been in development for months, will be aimed mainly at US consumers, and will cost $0.99 a week. It’s not clear whether an international or UK-specific version will follow.

According to a report leaking the project, The Daily will combine “a tabloid sensibility with a broadsheet intelligence”, with News Corp allegedly having already hired close to 100 journalists to work on the project.

There will be no web or print version of the title, and both the content and presentation will be designed specifically for the iPad and other high-end tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

The Daily is reportedly the brainchild of News Corp supremo Murdoch, whose company has already moved the digital faces of UK titles the Times and the News of the World behind subscriber-only paywalls.

Apple boss Steve Jobs is said to be fully on board with the idea, though it isn’t clear at this stage whether Apple has a more direct involvement in the project’s development. A beta version of The Daily is expected to appear around Christmas.
