Get hands-on with the Acer Aspire Z5761 all-in-one touchscreen PC

At a time when lots of manufacturers have been shifting emphasis to laptops and tablets, Acer has released the new Acer Aspire Z5761 all-in-one PC.

With a touchscreen that measures 23 inches, the Acer Aspire Z5761 is perfect for those wanting a combined computer and home entertainment centre, with the screen offering a pin-sharp Full HD resolution. You’ll also be able to order an integrated Blu-ray drive, and with a 16:9 aspect ratio the Acer Aspire Z5761 should be great for watching movies.

If you’re more interested in the computing side of things, you’ll be happy to know that Acer’s new all-in-one features a touchscreen display, with a host of touch-sensitive software to help you get the best out of it.

There’s a choice of Intel Core processors, with up to 8GB of memory, and there’s up to 1.5TB of storage space on offer for all of your movies, photographs and music files.

Everything else you’d expect to find on a PC is present and correct, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Gigabit Ethernet. Available in May, the Acer Aspire Z5761 starts at £799.

It's good but it's not that good. For an all-in-one, there are two pieces of kit that don't do it for me. Firstly the Dolby 'surround sound home cinema' puts out really bad quality lo-fi sound. A cheap pair of headphones produced a better result. Answer - get a decent pair of external speakers. Secondly, the HD webcam is no good unless you like making skype calls which show the top of your head. It's fixed in place, so unless you stand up, or tilt the whole monitor forward (not recommended) it's no use for what you want. Answer - use an external webcam. Result - an all-in-one which you have to plug extra bits into.
