Garmin unveils improved handheld GPS devices
The glove-friendly Garmin Oregon 450t
It may be freezing outside, but that hasn’t stopped sat nav specialist Garmin from launching a pair of new touchscreen handheld GPS devices for outdoors types.
The Garmin Oregon 450 and 450t are aimed at hikers, cyclists and trail runners and come with 3in colour touchscreens that Garmin claims are more responsive and easier to read than existing Oregon 400 Series models – the difference between them being the 450t comes with topographic street maps pre-loaded.
Returning to its vaunted new touchscreen credentials, Garmin claims you can use the 450 with gloves on – a useful feature for any GPS device launching in January.
The pair of new arrivals also boast a host of custom mapping options, allowing you to upload, store and share routes, waypoints or geo-locations through a PC, and transfer them wirelessly between devices when out and about.
No word of a European launch yet, but the 450 and 450t are set to retail for $399 and $499 respectively in the US.
