Fujifilm FinePix Real3D kills 3D specs
Introducing the world's first compact camera that shoots in 3D; no green and red glasses necessary
We remember when 3D was all the rage back in the 80s. Well it’s going through something of a revival, what with James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar 3D movie and the spate of 3D TVs that we saw at CES at the beginning of the year. Well, now there’s the Fujifilm FinePix Real3D – the world’s first compact camera that shoots stills in three dimensions, and it’s arriving… soon!
Okay, so the Fujifilm FinePix Real3D isn’t the first 3D camera we’ve seen – we’ve seen 3D webcams for instance – but it is being touted as the first 3D still camera for consumers when it hits Japan this summer. As always seems to be the way, we’ll have to wait to get our mitts on the Fujifilm FinePix Real3D, which comes to these shores in September.
So what’s the deal with the Fujifilm FinePix Real3D? Well, firstly, you won’t need to put on some ridiculous-looking red and green spectacles to get the 3D effect – the Fujifilm FinePix Real3D’s images can be displayed on an eight-inch LCD digital picture frame, which displays left and right images simultaneously. Don’t like the sound of that? You can always get your pictures printed with a plastic layer that acts as a ‘lens’ and creates the 3D effect.
So, how much does 3D cost nowadays? Well, the Fujifilm FinePix Real3D will set you back $600 or around £370 in British currency. Still. If it’s good enough for Cameron…
