Ford dishes up a dishy new digital dashboard
Eco friendliness, Knight Rider style
Ford has just shown off its next generation motors, and if the funky new dashboards are anything to go by we’ll be immersed in stylish digital cockpits in no time. Gone are the crummy old tickers and wobbly needles, making room for high resolution LCD displays that tell you how you’re driving.
Pop your key in ignition and the high tech dashboard dubbed SmartGauge instantly comes to life, popping up menus displaying your fuel, battery power, speed and smartest of all, insightful info on how you drive. It’s all designed to encourage an economical driving experience – a fuel gauge lets you know if you’re accelerating too aggressively for example, with a display showing you how efficiently your driving is.
There’s even a cool graphical display depicting a plant – drive efficiently and it’ll actually grow on your dashboard, but fail and the leaves will fall off and it’ll die!
The interface, dubbed EcoGuide will be dashing its way to Ford Fusion Hybrid and Mercurt Milan Hybrid cars in 2010. We can’t wait for our test drive.
