Fancy a smartphone with 60-inch screen?

Fancy a smartphone with 60-inch screen?

Ever wish the screen of your smartphone was bigger? If so, QP Optoelectronics LightPad makes those wishes come true using a combination of a keyboard dock and a rear projection screen to project smartphone images up to 60-inches in size.

And perhaps more conveniently, the LightPad will even lend its projection talents into pretending it’s a laptop.

The LightPad resembles a flat keyboard that comes in three parts: keyboard, screen and rear projection unit. Folded out, it isn’t the most portable of gadgets, but what it does do is offer smartphone users an 11-inch screen to work on, provided they find a desk to rest the LightPad on.

To make the most of those HD films nestled on your smartphone, the LightPad also features a built-in pico projector that flips into action to create a 60-inch display with any phone that has an HDMI or MHL port.

Whether the LightPad makes it to stores over here is anyone’s guess, but in the meantime the LightPad will first be making a stop at electronics show CES 2012, where attendees will get a first hands and eyes-on look at the device. Pricing details and a release date have yet to be announced.
