Facebook: Timeline compulsory for all users?

The ever-so-popular social-networking site Facebook has had a number of massive changes over the years. Its biggest change to-date, Timeline, will soon be rolling out to all users, forcing those who have been reluctant to make the change, encouraged to do so. Read on to learn more about the announcement.

Facebook announced the news on its own blog saying that “over the next few weeks, everyone will get timeline.”

Facebook Timeline was introduced late last year. It’s a new style of layout chronicling your life and social events from the day you were born, should users wish to backdate that far back.

Facebook Timeline goes live on Android

Users also get the chance to use a larger profile photo that Facebook says acts like a photo album cover. Photos and videos will also appear more prominently on profiles, highlighting social events.

Visually, Timeline is the most radical Facebook overhaul yet. For current users, Facebook Timeline will be rolling out in the next couple of weeks, so those yet to try it out have seven days to look at their current profile to decide what they want to share in the new Timeline, and what they wish to hide.

Facebook Timeline has also rolled out onto mobile devices including Apple iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Are you still using the old format? If so, drop us a comment and let us know your thoughts on making the move to Timeline.

absolutely ridiculous idea, i'm reluctant to get it! I dont want people to see what i wrote 3 years ago? and the scattered layout does my head in, you have no idea what you're reading! facebook keep introducing this and that, they should ask users what they want, we dont want any of this!!! all we want is a dislike button!!

What an absolutely ridiculous idea....why would anyone want to document everything about their lives right back to birth......I don't like it & don't really want it

I think its a nice new simple concept, and i dont understand why everyone moans when facebook makes itself better, its got a lot to compete against now, Google+, twitter etc. At the end of the day if you dont like it, dont use it.

don't know what all the fuss is about. i tried timeline and everything i do not want to be seen in the past i simply don't put there. it really is that easy. Earlier on people could already see what happened in ones past if they had a well oiled scroll-wheel on their mouse. so no change their neither... just relax guys... it is still up to you what you want the public to see.

I really don't understand what the fuss is about... The layout is OK although I do think its a bit of a waste of space keeping posts for so long, I can't say I am really bothered about posts I made two years ago, but since I never put anything on Facebook that I wouldn't be happy for anyone to see, it makes no difference. And if anyone is bothered about people seeing old posts maybe they should be more careful about what they put in the public domain to start with. Oh and Facebook, please give us a dislike button as well as a like one.

Timeline only affects your profile, I don't really spend much time looking at my own profile, I usually stay on the newsfeed page so doesn't really make a difference to me. But I have had timeline for a month now and I do like the layout.

Timeline essentially acts as a diary. Don't want everybody looking at what you've done, said, read, watched? Then change your privacy settings or delete your profile. I for one get a great deal of enjoyment from looking back at what I was up to years ago - memories that would have probably been forgotten had they not been documented this way - besides I don't post anything that I'm not comfortable with other people seeing anyway...

I've had Timeline since December. I activated it as I thought it was a simple profile add-on, it was then I realised it completely changed the look of my profile and I couldn't change it back. It was so frustrating as I prefer the original "profile" layout. The Timeline is too clustered with information. I much preferred the original "profile" layout. Fellow commenters are right, Mr Zuckerburg should consider what the actual users want. Rather than "add" stuff, they "change" it instead and too frequently too!

People whining about privacy, well you shouldn't put those kind of things on Facebook then.

Timeline is amazing! It shows everything it used to but now in 2 vertical columns.... which you can break by "featuring" the Story, Picture, Video etc and make it full screen width at the click of a button. It makes everything beautiful... you can actually see pictures!
