Edifier iF500 Luna 5 is a rockin’ dock

Edifier iF500 Luna 5 is a rockin’ dock What makes a Luna tick? An iPod of course…

What’s the deal with iPod docks? They used to be more boring than a day at Parliament. Now the gadget genre’s a preserve for designers to try out some weird and whacky designs. Following in the footsteps of the B&W Zeppelin is the Edifier iF500 Luna 5, which looks a bit like a shrunken down version of the Star Wars Death Star.

Okay, so it looks crazy, but is it any good as an iPod dock? Well, the big Death Star bit behind the docking station actually hides a five-driver speaker system with a power output of 55W. There are also six touch-sensitive buttons, which can control your iPod or MP3 player, an FM radio, plus aux inputs for other music players.

Costing one penny shy of £200, the Luna 5 is out now. The one thing it doesn’t have is a little hole for the rebel alliance to shoot at. Making this infinitely better than the Death Star. Fact.
