Denon unleashes Blu-ray beast Cara
Say hello to the lovely Cara
We’ve seen a good few upmarket Blu-ray disc spinners in recent months, and AV high-ender Denon has inevitably decided to get in on the act too with the S-5BD, or the Cara as it will be known in Europe.
Denon has thrown in a stack of tempting technical goodies, such as the Simple and Straight signal path technology and 1080p/24fps playback, while it also conforms to the latest up-to-the-minute HDMI 1.4 standard.
The Blu-ray player itself is a Profile 2.0 affair – naturally – with HD audio decoding and the latest Dolby Pro-Logic IIz certification. The dual-zone 5.1 amplifier can be operated from two different sources at once, and there are preouts for running additional audio channels. As is, the 4ohm power output is rated at 5×75W.
For all this fancy footwork Denon is asking a princely £1,999, despite only charging $1,799 in the US. If that doesn’t put you off, Denon’s Cara can be yours from next month.
