Denon launches gloss-black CEOL Noir network stereo
Although there are loads of fantastic all-in-one iPod docks out there, we still prefer a good stereo with proper individual speakers. The Denon CEOL looks like it can cater for all your music needs, offering iPod/iPhone connectivity, to go with network streaming, internet radio playback and more. We’ve already seen a white version of this stereo – now there’s a gloss black one as well.
Gone are the days when stereos were limited to playing your CDs or regular radio stations, with a whole host of new options available from the latest products. The Denon CEOL Noir looks like a regular micro system, but it’s a bit smarter than that.
Denon has been selling a white version of the CEOL for a little while now, but fans of darker colours are more likely to fall for the CEOL Noir. There’s still a CD drive on the front of the unit, and an iPod dock on the top, but it’s options such the ability to connect to your digital music collection via AirPlay that sets the CEOL Noir apart.
Networking options on the CEOL Noir make it easy to stream music from your computer or other digital devices, and you’ll also be able to play back thousands of DAB radio stations from around the world.
All this connectivity doesn’t come cheap, with the CEOL Noir costing £500 without speakers. No doubt it will sound as good as it looks, however.

I'm still a little old fashioned, running an Arcam Alpha5 plus amp, with Tannoy 605 II speakers. My nod to tech would be that the amp is fed from my PC through WMP, with the music stored on a network drive as uncompressed files. The sound is clear, un-distorted and room filling. I'd play it louder, but I like my neighbours ;) If anyone has a suggestion for better software than Windows Media Player, I'd love to hear it. Ideally freeware of course.
