Dell's hybrid tablet swivels into view
Tablet or netbook - you decide
Can’t make up your mind between a tablet or a netbook? Well, thanks to the hybrid Dell Inspiron Duo you soon won’t have to.
Shown off at the Intel Developers Forum this week, the Inspiron Duo is a hybrid convertible tablet with a 10in screen that swivels on a central axis inside the frame, enabling you to switch between netbook and tablet form factors in moments.
According to Dell, the alternative take to the standard tilt-and-pivot approach means the Inspiron Duo is not only stronger than conventional tablet PCs, but slimmer too.
With its physical attributes understandably getting most of the attention at this stage, the Inspiron Duo’s spec remains largely a mystery. We do know it will run the dual-core Atom A550 processor – which Intel says will make it the most powerful 10in tablet on the market – and will also come with Windows 7 Premium on board.
Dell has promised the Inspiron Duo will be swivelling its way onto the shelves before the end of the year, but has yet to give us any indication of what it will cost.
