Dell launches "most advanced gaming PC ever"!

With laptops and tablets becoming more and more popular in the computing market, it’s easy to forget about the humble desktop PC. The latest Dell Alienware Aurora is an absolute monster, however, promising to be the “most advanced gaming desktop ever”. Read on to find out more.

The Dell Alienware Aurora is the latest gaming PC from Dell, and it looks likely to batter anything that went before it into submission. You’ll be able to spec dual AMD Radeon HD 6950 graphics cards for a start, with up to 2GB of dedicated video memory, so even the most demanding of titles should run smoothly and at high frame rates.

Check out our Computing best buys!

You’ll also get a choice of high-end Intel Core processors, with the latest Intel Core i7-3000 six-core chips on offer. Backed by up to 16GB of DDR3 memory, there really isn’t much (or anything!) that can currently slow the Dell Alienware Aurora down.

There’s plenty of choice when it comes to storage, too, with 7200rpm hard drives on offer, or up to 512GB of solid state storage. You’ll be able to spec a Blu-ray drive and take full advantage of high-definition video, and there are multiple high-end surround sound setup options on offer.

Prices for the Dell Alienware Aurora start at £1999, although you’ll be paying considerably more for the range-topping specification. Unlike most gaming laptops, however, most of the components will be easily upgradeable in the future.

Would you buy a gaming PC? Or do you prefer consoles all the way? Leave a comment below and let us know.

BUY THAT?!? THAT!?! Why the hell would I buy that? I could build one with a better spec for far far less than that, and considering how easy it is to build a PC nowdays, I don't understand why people actually buy alienware. The only nice thing about this particular model is the case, although i've heard they have terrible airflow.

build that at equal price with the same service you must be joking. where will you find all the custom parts at the same price?

What custom parts? And what service? A friend of mine had to send their Alienware PC back because of a fault and it took them 2 months to send it back. 2 months

I agree with @gadget_dav. If you search around the net you can find the parts for cheaper or find something similar that gives the same results if not better and still save money.

Might be the best one that can be mass-produced, but you can still completely destroy this with a dual-cpu motherboard, they've been out for over a year now

I agree with Dav, I have been building my own computers for a few years now and for this machine i could do it a lot cheaper. A decent builder will be able to give you atleast a 12month guarentee on all of the parts, the only uniqueness on this machine is the case and I would prefer to get a case that has good air flow rating combined with being aesthetically pleasing. Good machine, just a tad expensive.

Claiming you could build one for less is such a redundant argument these days!! Everyone and their dog knows it is possible, and most people are capable (to some degree) of doing it! Just because you say that doesn't make you 'a computer guy' any more!! You are, in part, paying for the brand name (you always get a little nod of approval when you announce you have an Alienware) but what you are really paying for is the warranty, the convenience of having it delivered in one piece and the brand name!! (oh wait, did I already say that?) and the changeable LEDs with the Alienware Control Centre, they r cool!! People who can afford one, get one!! Those that can't, happy building!! Simple as!

WHY WOULD YOU BUY SUCH AN EXPENSIVE GAMING PC WHEN YOU CAN BUY A PS3????!?!?!?!?!It is much cheaper you can get better games!

@Jon, you do have a valid point, it is in some ways more convenient to have on delivered in one piece, and Alienware are a "cool" brand. But I really much prefer making it myself, considering I have much more choice as to what goes in there and to be honest I quite enjoy it. The warranty is an easy one to get around, you can just get warranties for the individual parts and similar story with the LEDs. You can just buy them and put them on yourself. I probably couldn't afford an Alienware PC, but them again i'm not sure I would want to

Under no circumstances would I ever give my money to dell and Alienware. I guarantee I could build the same spec for around half the price and at least I would choose every component not just what size the hdd is but who makes it too. Yes I would buy a PC but I would build it myself for those who are scared to do so there are far more trust worthy places that will build you a high end pc without trying to fleece you at the same time. Mention alienware on any overclocking site and the groans will be heard for miles around and while you dont have to overclock it is a great place to get sound advice that will save you money dont buy from alienware please!
