Colour eBook readers on the way?
Is colour finally on its way to eReaders?
If eBook readers stand any real chance of holding off the tablet brigade, a move to full colour screens can’t come soon enough.
A virtual no-brainer in every other arena of consumer technology, colour displays have yet to find their way onto eReaders such as the Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader, because of the nature of the E-ink screen technology they use.
Which is why Chinese firm Hanvon’s official unveiling of a colour eReader in Tokyo later this week is bound to attract plenty of attention. Though you may not have heard of Hanvon, it supplies 90 per cent of the world’s E-ink screens, and a colour prototype is sure to have the likes of Amazon and Sony putting the development wheels in motion for their next generation of eBook readers.
According to the New York Times, Hanvon plans to release its first colour reader to the public in China next year, for the equivalent of around £270.
