Civilian space travel one step closer
The VSH – outer-space special
Space tourism became one step closer to reality with the announcement of a brand-new reusable shuttle by space travel company Dassault.
The air-launched VSH “hypersonic vehicle” is based on NASA’s X-38 and can be launched into space from the wing of a commercial aeroplane. It’s claimed that it can reach a height of 62 miles – just at the edge of space, although you will also get the thrill of travelling at a gut-wrenching Mach 3.5.
Thrill-seeking tourists will be weightless for about three minutes – all of which sounds quite similar to the $20K flights from Virgin Galactic – perhaps a price-dropping space race will be on the cards?
