Canon unveils new PowerShot models
Canon's new PowerShot A3100 IS and A3000 IS compacts
Canon has unveiled four new Powershot compact cameras, the A3100 IS and A495, and a pair of Argos-exclusive spinoffs – the A3000 IS and A490.
The 12.1MP A3100 and the 10MP A3000 feature a DIGIC III image processor, 4x optical zoom and a 2.7in LCD, with Canon describing the new models as “slim, lightweight and attractive”.
Aside from the usual swathe of auto shooting modes – including face self-timer, which only starts the self-timer countdown when it detects an extra face in shot – you also get VGA video shooting and support for the new SD XC memory card format.
The A3100 comes in blue, red and silver, and will cost £189 when it goes on sale next month, while the A3000 will be available in silver only, with the price yet to be confirmed.
The lower-end A495 and the Argos-exclusive A490 both have 10MP sensors, 3.3x optical zoom and a 2.5in LCD. The former will retail for £139 from next month, with Argos yet to make its pricing known.
