BT launches iPhone and Android app
BT Fon – free WiFi finder
BT has launched its own app for iPhone and Android to help customers locate free WiFi hotspots. The free BT Fon WiFi finder app will let BT Total Broadband customers with iPhones or Android handsets get an automatic connection to any BT OpenZone or BT Fon hotspots.
If you’re in range, the app will automatically connect you to one of BT’s 1.6 million WiFi hotspots, if your WiFi settings are switched on of course. This should mean simple, fuss-free browsing whenever you’re in range when out and about.
The app, which can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store and Android Market, simply requires BT customers to log in with their username and password. You can set the app to hook up automatically to any hotspots. There’s also a map service that will pinpoint the nearest WiFi hotspot location and is updated weekly.
As an added incentive, every time the app is downloaded, BT will donate 50p to BBC Children In Need (up to a maximum of £10,000). Pudsey will be pleased.
