BlackBerry Torch coming to Vodafone
BlackBerry Torch 9800 – sharp new slider
The BlackBerry Torch 9800, formerly known as the BlackBerry Slider, has just been made official. And it looks as if Vodafone is going to be the first UK network to stock the new device when it hits these shores.
The BlackBerry Torch, despite its misleading name, is RIM’s latest mobile that’s gunning for mass appeal. It comes with both a 3.2inch, 480×360 touchscreen as well as a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
The 9800 also packs in Wi-Fi, GPS, a 624MHz CPU, and 4GB of onboard storage. There’s also a 5-megapixel camera – another improvement over any previous BlackBerry.
The BlackBerry Torch 9800 is also the first handset to run the new BlackBerry 6 OS, which brings many improvements such as pinch to zoom browsing and tab switching.
Vodafone already has a pre-order page up and running, saying that the BlackBerry Torch will be “coming soon” and there’s an area for signing up for more information.
The BlackBerry Torch will be making its US debut on 12 August, but there’s still no word of exactly when we’ll see it over here.

It's just a Palm Pre with some extra gloss.

When do we get a review... Mine is on order. It'll be my first BlackBerry. I'm not sure that getting this out of hatred for Apple Corp (I had an oringinal iPhone and it sucked) was a smart move but I hope it pays off.

As the Gadget show aren't doing a review perhaps I can help anybody toying with the idea of getting a torch... do it! I got mine three days ago and it rocks. I have had an iPhone up till now and in terms of being user friendly the BB OS6 wins hands down. Sure it has a few bugs such once you have synced your Facebook account with your contacts and are using their FB picture profiles as your contact ID photos it randomly forgets to uphold its side of the deal and erases the pictures. The processor is a little slower than the iPhone but this doesn't make a difference in real terms - no stalling or crashing here. The camera is great... 5MP and great options to upload to social feeds as you go. The 'lock' button is totally inadequate however - it appears that the keys are locked so long as you don't touch the device. These little issues aside, it is totally worth it - I love it. The battery is awesome, the call clarity make the iPhone sound like a plastic cup on some string, and the keyboard is simply magic. The build solid (I have dropped it a few times and it still works feels more solid than my Victorian house). This is an epic phone and, once the OS bugs are ironed out in updates it will be perfect.

im waiting for my bb torch to be delivered from vodafone. ive had an iphone for the last two years and it was fantastic but felt for a change. ive wanted a bb for a while but the ui and the stupidly poor web browser put me off. however the bb torch does look like a big improvement on the old bb models, the ui is a lot more user friendly and the web browser a lot quicker, but theres still some work to be done because to be honest they are still behind the likes of android and apple.
