BlackBerry Boss apologises via YouTube
RIM founder and co-CEO Mike Lazaridis has made a YouTube video to explain the state of the company’s BlackBerry services and to apologize for the server outages that have seen thousands of customers around the world unable to receive email, browse the web or use BlackBerry Messenger.
A series of server problems in RIM’s Slough offices on Monday the 10th of October managed to knock out several services used by BlackBerry owners on three continents. BlackBerry email (as in, emails that go via RIM’s own servers rather than corporate email or Gmail, etc.) went down on several occasions, as did the BlackBerry Messenger service and some proxy servers that enable web browsing on BlackBerry handsets.

RIM made several attempts to restore the servers and issued statements to say that things were back to normal, only for the servers to fail repeatedly before RIM’s engineers finally got things up and running yesterday.
Mike Lazaridis decided to responded to the criticism that his company has faced by recording a video message to BlackBerry users. Before outlining the nature of the fault and the steps that the company was taking to resolve the issue, the CEO apologised to customers.
“I apologise for the service outages this week. We’ve let many of you down. But let me assure you that we’re working round the clock to fix this. You expect better from us, and I expect better from us.
“For those of you affected, I know this is very frustrating. We’re doing everything in our power to restore regular service levels, and we’re working tirelessly to restore your trust in us.”
RIM has now confirmed that the issue has been resolved and all customers should have full service again.
