BeoVision 7 gives 3D with a Bang (and Olufsen)
Bang & Olufsen might be better known for their top-notch stereos and audio equipment, but they also make TVs and other home entertainment products. The BeoVision 7 is the latest from the B&O production line – a 3D TV set with built-in Blu-ray player and (of course) digital surround sound.
The idea is that 3D requires a more intensive and immersive viewing experience that mere 2D. By packing in top quality audio visuals B&O hope to make this a touch better than the typical 3D telly.
The BeoVision (‘BO’, geddit? We think) uses active shutter lenses (i.e. silly glasses) rather than the glasses-free tech many manufacturers are going for lately, This is arguably a good thing as you get a much wider viewing angle – something which the BeoVision goes some way to help with even further by raising and tilting its motorised base to ensure you don’t have to get out of your chair if you sat in the wrong place. And are lazy.
An ambient light sensor will calibrate the screen brightness and contrast to ensure the best image quality – important with 3D flicks as they can err on the dark side.
Bang & Olufsen’s audio prowess is in full effect – digital stereo sound, of course, but also a patented ‘acoustic lens’ technology that directs sound according to the room layout to ensure everything is crystal clear.
Stashed in the side of the BeoVision 7 is a slimline Blu-ray player which also supports 3D, of course. The BeoVision also uses B&O’s ICEPower technology to balance power consumption with sound output, so you might even save a few pennies on your utilities.
