Battery powered Toshiba TV: Watch the Gadget Show in the garden!

We love the fact we can take our iPad out with us when the weather is nice, and the same goes for gadgets like smartphones or mobile games consoles. Thanks to Toshiba, you’ll soon be able to take the TV out into the garden with you as well, topping up that sun tan while keeping an eye on the Gadget Show!

Yup, the idea of a battery powered TV may take you by surprise (it certainly did us), but that’s exactly what the Toshiba REGZA 19P2 is. Measuring in at 19 inches, it’s definitely not portable, but at least you won’t have power cables trailing across the garden if you do decide to go and sit in the sun.

The Toshiba REGZA 19P2 features a resolution of 1366×768 pixels – and although it’s not Full HD, it should still look pretty sharp on a screen of this size.

According to Toshiba, the REGZA 19P2 can run off its removable battery pack for up to five hours, keeping you easily entertained while you watch a couple of episodes of your favourite show (the Gadget Show, we hope!).

You can also plug the Toshiba into the mains, and run it off that when you’re indoors. One thing we’re not sure about is whether the REGZA 19P2 features an integrated antenna – we’d hope so, or the wire trailing from the aerial on your roof to the TV somewhat defeats the idea.

At the moment, the Toshiba REGZA 19P2 is aimed at the Japanese market only, but it may be hitting these shores in the future. Would you buy a battery powered TV? Leave a comment and let us know.

This is a good idea if you have a shed or like which has no mains power, plus you might be able to fit a semi decent Ariel to the roof. i would also like to see how it performs in bright sun light as i believe they are only just sorting that out on camera/camcorder lcd's. now as i remember with CRT TVs 19" was portable maybe even up to 22" so why this 19" LCD, which is thinner and should be lighter, is not portable is a little confusing.

I would buy a battery-powered TV of any size in a heartbeat. I live on Cape Cod where power outages are frequent and often extended. I'd buy one for my 80-something aunt who lives in Western Mass. She went through a major tornado in June of this year, then a hurricane in late August, and today, Oct. 31st she is once more without power and looking at a foot of snow outside. She is freezing, too. And she does NOT have a computer or cell phone. She and I (age 54) are low-tech, no-tech ladies. We live in retirement towns where such a product would be greatly received. It would sell out if it were offered in the local hardware or audio-visual stores, I promise you. (Cape Cod is a very popular retirement area, where about 100,00 elderly people live, and where you need a car to get around. So isolation is a big problem for them during a major storm. In fact, I wish there were a site that offered battery-powered products of all types. My aunt is dying for a cup of tea. But there is no way to heat the water! She has been told that power will not be restored for the next few days. We are both afraid of using gas, ie propane powered items. The simpler, safer, and easy to use item it is, the better. Thank you for "listening" to me. Anne
