Asus culls smaller Eee PCs
Asus to concentrate on ten-inch Eee PCs; bags just got that bit heavier
Bad news for Eee PC fans out there: Asus, those purveyors of fine laptops that can pretty much fit in any trouser pocket (unless they’re Russell Brand’s), are culling the 8.9-inch models to “concentrate” on the 10-inchers.
The company that made the “cheap and cheerful” laptop-look its own, now seems to be turning its back on that philosophy and concentrating on the larger ten-inch 1000 series models instead. The move has come after Asus announced last week that it will be putting up the price of its computers.
Asus estimates that ten-inch Eee PCs will account for 95 per cent of all Eee PC sales this year. It’s believed that this is a move to curtail Acer’s growing share in the market. As long as the Eee PC doesn’t disappear altogether, we don’t mind. It means we can still use the headline Eee-sy PC! Sorry.
