Archos G9 Android tablet available for pre-order
The Archos G9 is an Android-based tablet, offering a decent spec sheet and styling that doesn’t look like just another Apple iPad clone. The G9 was first announced back in June, but it’s set to be available for pre-order in the next few days.
The Archos G9 is one of the latest tablets to hit the shops, and you’ll be able to pre-order it on the 20th September. It features rounded edges and a curved design that set it apart from all the iPad clones, and there’s a decent set of specs on offer to tempt you.
You’ll be able to choose from two different models – the 8-inch Archos 80 G9, and the 10.1-inch Archos 101 G9, and both feature detailed screen resolutions. The 8-inch tablet comes with a 1024×768-pixel display, and the 10-inch model boasts a 1280×800-pixel panel.
Somewhat unusual for an Android tablet, you’ll also be able to spec the G9 with a traditional hard drive. With up to 250GB on offer, could this be the ultimate tablet for home entertainment? We’ll have to wait and see, as we’re not sure what the HDD will do for battery life!
Slightly more conservative buyers will be able to opt for flash memory, with 16GB versions also available.
Will you be signing up to buy the Archos G9? Leave a comment and let us know.

After the woeful wireless problems with my now sold but otherwise awesome Archos 70 250gb tablet, will think long and hard about another Archos tablet. A shame as I have been an Archos owner and fan for 9 years.

It looks hideous, and that 4:3 screen format is so 1980's. As archos stuff is usually very cheap, probably because it uses a lot of out dated tech, would be o.k if UNDER £200, HDD version would be an improvement, though it would HAVE to have a 16:9 screen as most space on a HDD is taken up by movies these days, this is why the iPad is crap as a true multimedia device.

The spec says it's ARM A9/TI OMAP 4 UPTO 1.5Ghz dual core. I'm not sure why they say upto rather than exact cpu. Also it has true Market rather than having to use a hack. I would like to see how the performance will be, like responsiveness. They don't say how much memory is there either. 'Cos meagre 256mb on the previous models were not sufficient, if you are streaming. Well, quad core tablets are not far off, if press releases from nVidia and Qualcomm are anything to go by. It'll be interesting and good for the consumer when competition heats up.

This Tablet looks to be the best on the Market when it's released and will be faster than the Tegra 2 Processor as the Archos has an OMAP 4 1.5Ghz processor that will blow the Competition away... Also the Price is look to be low which will shake up the market, especially the Andriod 2.2 devices....

The Archos G9 will have the equivcalent of 512 mb of RAM. Price for the top model - 10.1 inch with 250 GB will be £ 329.99. It amazing what you get from the support team at Archos when you ask - they are a great bunch of people. I will definitley be getting one as soon as the are released. HMV are not doing the 250 GB HDD - just the 16GB Flash version.
