Arcam launches 'world's best' iPod dock

Arcam launches 'world's best' iPod dock The Arcam rCube - yours for £499

We tend not to take too much notice of iPod docks these days, but with the Arcam rCube claiming to be nothing short of the best iPod dock in the world, we thought we’d make an exception.

It looks quietly purposeful but lacks the presence of rivals such as the B&W Zeppelin – widely proclaimed as the current pick of the docking crop.

But of course it’s under the surface where the real battle is won or lost, and the rCube certainly makes a compelling argument. The result of more than three years of development, the rCube uses Kleer audio technology to deliver high-fidelity sound that packs a room-filling punch.

Aside from being able to snugly house your iPod or iPhone, this high-end powerhouse boast wireless streaming too from your favourite Apple device (including the iPad) or a PC or Mac. You can also share music around the house with other rCubes or Kleer-compatible headphones.

A real-world 90W RMS should prove to be more power than you’ll ever need, while battery life is rated at eight hours.

Weighing in at 5kg and measuring 20cm to a side, the Arcam rCube is stretching the definition of “portable”, but it certainly seems to mean business when it comes to performance. You can test its claims out for yourself at your local John Lewis, where the rCube has gone on sale for £499.
