Apple's App Store hits a billion! It's one billion downloads and counting for Apple's App Store

It was about as inevitable as the Chancellor’s gloomy Budget on Wednesday, but Apple’s App store has already hit one billion downloads!

The fact that Apple has managed to hit the one billion mark so quickly is remarkable, especially considering that it originally took six months to hit its first 500 million. In case you were wondering, it took just 95 days to reach the mythical 1,000,000,000 figure.

Since its launch the App Store has breathed new life into the smartphone market, with innumerable pretenders having launched or launching their own app stores (see Nokia, RIM, Palm, Microsoft and Samsung to name a few).

And just in case you were wondering what the all-time top paid app from Apple’s App Store is, it’s Crash Bandicoot Nitro Cart 3D. At £3.49 a pop it’s no wonder Apple’s celebrating a billion downloads!
