Apple targets Sony, EMI and Universal for its iTunes music streaming service
Apple is already on top of the music world with its iTunes service, but the company is looking to grab a bigger slice of the music market, and has targetted EMI, Universal and Sony for its music streaming service.
Whether you love or loath Apple’s iTunes service, there’s no doubting the size and popularity of the app, and it’s fast becoming the default way of accessing new music. Not everybody wants to download tracks to their computer, phone or iPod, however, which is why music streaming is becoming increasingly popular.
When you’re streaming music, you can listen to whatever you want, whenever you want, without needing to wait for an album to download. Services like Spotify and Last.FM have proved how popular streaming can be, and Apple wants to be a part of it.
Apple has already signed up Warner Music to its iTunes streaming service – likely to be called iCloud – but the company has now signed up music giant EMI, with Sony and Universal also in its targets.
Sounds good to us – the more record companies on board the more choice of music there will be. What do you think – do you prefer downloading songs so you can use them any time and any place, or do you like streaming tunes on a whim? Or, shock horror, are you still a lover of CDs?
