Apple shifts 3m iPads in 80 days

The Gadget Show  Wednesday 23 June 2010

Apple shifts 3m iPads in 80 days Apple has already flogged three million iPads in just 80 days!

Apple has already flogged three million iPads in just 80 days, as the tablet’s popularity continues to exceed all expectations.

Before the iPad’s launch, many questioned if there was enough room between smartphones and netbooks to accommodate another new form factor in tablets, but the iPad has made room with its blend of power and high-end desirability.

And it’s likely that sales are only going to accelerate: for more than half of those 80 days the iPad was only available in the US, with the UK and eight other countries only joining in the fun at the end of May, while a further nine countries will get their iPad credentials rubber-stamped next month.

“People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives,” Apple boss Steve Jobs commented. “We’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month.”

Apple has also revealed that there are now 11,000 apps built specifically for the iPad – that’s over and above the 225,000-odd iPhone apps that also run on the bigger form factor.
