Apple rolls out iOS 4.2 for iPad, iPhone
The iPad just got smarter
Apple iOS 4.2, the latest version of the mobile operating system for the iPhone and iPad, is now available to download.
The update was made live last night, and is a major step forward for the iPad in particular, adding more than 100 new features to the tablet’s already extensive list of skills.
Chief among them is multitasking, meaning you can now switch between third-party apps – a feature already present on the iPhone 4. Also new is support for folders so the homescreen can be kept in neater order, as well as AirPlay and AirPrint, Apple’s utilities for wireless media streaming and printing.
The latter two features are also new for the iPhone and iPod touch, while Apple has rolled in Find My iPhone too – an online service that lets you locate your Apple device via its on-board GPS and – if it’s fallen into the wrong hands – wipe your data.
Apple iOS 4.2 is a free download, and is available through iTunes.
